PROJECT QUESTION: I was wondering if you could explain the manhole design specials 3 through 15? Are they supposed to be booted connections? Integral base slabs?

Q: I was wondering if you could explain the manhole design specials 3 through 15? Are they supposed to be booted connections? Integral base slabs? As I look at the special provisions it just states the type of structure and the remarks states: Std Plate 4007 base and boot requirements.

A: As per S-90.2 in Division S, integral structure bases and watertight pipe opening seals as per MnDOT Std Plate 4007C (aka booted connections) are required for these structures. The required structures are basically the typical structure type listed in the chart shown in S-90.3, with the integral base and booted connection. The extra requirements are needed to make the storm sewer a leak-proof system in areas where the storm sewer systems are located within the minimum offsets of the water mains as per Lake States Water and Sewer requirements. The proposed storm sewer requirements in these areas have been approved by the MHD as part of the permit received by the City.

For the booted connections, are Grout Rings considered an equal to boot connections?
