PROJECT QUESTION: Plan page 82, the Staging Typical Section Stage 1 shows widening and Inset J. Within this typical, the bottom of the aggregate base shows a solid line and a dashed line underneath the existing pavement. Does the gravel underneath the existing pavement need to be removed and new gravel placed?

Plan page 82, the Staging Typical Section Stage 1 shows widening and Inset J. Within this typical, the bottom of the aggregate base shows a solid line and a dashed line underneath the existing pavement. Does the gravel underneath the existing pavement need to be removed and new gravel placed?

Response:
Note 7 on Page 82 indicates that Shoulder Strengthening will be required for certain locations, and Pavement Widening for others as shown on the Staging and Traffic Control Plan. In locations where Shoulder Strengthening is called out, existing aggregate can remain. In locations where pavement widening is shown, new aggregate will be needed.
